From a group of women who have met weekly since 2012 at the Forestville Wellness Center, this anthology reflects the power of healing through writing, a concept also called Narrative Medicine. This concept posits that not only can we understand each other better through stories and narratives, but that this narrative can be Medicine. The participants write from the heart and share their writing with others. Themes range from Nature to Relationships, from Grief to Whimsy, and everything in-between. The Group “holds” what is shared through generous listening. The power of being heard allows us the opportunity to relate and connect with others.
Silence and isolation are often the most painful side effects of illness in any form. Together, we open and enjoy the comfort and release that a writing Community can provide.
Selected poetry readings, with musical piano and flute interludes, Q&A, suggested donations for books, (all proceeds go to West County Medical Centers), and signing. Admission is free, all donations to OCA gratefully accepted. Wine, beer and refreshments available.
