“Along the Russian River” was designed by Linda Morand and created by the Pointless Sisters Art Quilt Group of the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild of Sonoma County, California as their 2009 challenge. The quilt depicts the path of the Russian River from its mouth at the Pacific Ocean through pastureland, summer resorts, the Wine Country and orchards to its source in the mountains. The river travels through four seasons and the color spectrum. Each of the twenty panels was appliquéd and quilted by an individual member following a full size pattern and color key.

The Pointless Sisters is an art quilt group whose members’ quilts have been shown nationally and internationally. Operating under the auspices of the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild,  members explore art quilt techniques, sponsor educational programs, and challenge each other annually to produce quilts with a common theme.

The OCA Gallery is open Thursday and Friday from 12 noon to 4 pm, during Occidental Center for the Arts events or by appointment (707-874-9392).

OCA invites artistic submissions for the theme of “The Fool”: Two or three dimensional art that calls to mind any ideas embodied by the fool/jester, as in: a spirit in search of experience; mystical vs. worldly; crazy wisdom; trickster any personal visual interpretation of the idea! This exhibit corresponds with the Annual Occidental Fool’s Day Parade.

The show will run March 9 – May 5, 2012. $50 Best of Show Award.

To participate in the show, deliver exhibit ready artwork to the OCA Gallery at the Occidental Center for the Arts on Sunday, March 4 from 4:00-5:00 pm. Accompany piece or pieces with a completed Fool-Gallery-Contract from this website and cash or a check made out to OCA.

One entry for $10.00 and two for $15.00. Best of Show Award $50.

The juror for this show is Leslie Zumwalt, artist and owner of Frame of Mind in Forestville, who will select Best of Show and Award of Merit prizes.

Opening Reception for the Artists is: Saturday, March 10, from 5:00-6:30 pm. OCA Gallery will provide beverages and munchies for the reception.

Please fill out a contract for each piece prior to arrival.

All work must be of high quality and not larger than 4′x4′, wired, dry, and ready to hang or display. We prefer wires unless absolutely impossible (we don’t like bull dog hangers!). All paintings must have finished edges (no canvas staples showing). All art should be labeled with the following on the back or bottom of the piece:

• artist’s name
• artist’s contact information
• the pieces title

All media accepted if possible.

The Gallery takes 40% of all sales as a commission to the Occidental Center for the Arts,  so price accordingly

The show will end on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Pick up of all art is Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 3pm to 4:30 pm
Due to limited storage space, any art not picked up by that time will be charged $1 a day storage fee. Art left for 30 days will become property of OCA.

Since performing for us in 1994, this quartet has grown in maturity and depth, as well as creating additional appeal for listeners by going digital. Their original idea to record every live performance so as to make it accessible to audiences after the fact, not only allowed for specific memories to be held, but as an acute tool for improvement in the ensemble.  In addition, by incorporating four lap top computers into their performance, all of which hold their sheet music, they can project the actual four part score, in the composer’s handwriting, to be viewed by the audience.  This is a special multimedia experience for our audience, with our small venue.
