Pointless in Occidental – 2019 –
“Urban/Cityscape” and “Earth, Wind and Fire”
The Pointless Sisters Group regularly challenges its members to create a fiber art piece that fits specific parameters of subject, size, color or technique. Recent challenge themes have shown at Occidental Center for the Arts such as “Flowers”, “Reflections”, “Black and White plus One Color.”
This year’s OCA exhibit contains work from the two most recent challenges, “Urban/Cityscape” and “Earth, Wind and Fire.”
After the fires in 2017, it seemed like a natural and obvious choice to have a Fire challenge. This became “Earth, Wind and Fire” to broaden the scope of the challenge and accommodate the various reactions and experiences that our members had regarding the fires. Many of the pieces in this collection got their start in a workshop with internationally renowned fiber artist, Rosalie Dace, who happens to teach a workshop called “Earth, Wind and Fire”.
The second challenge displayed are from the very broad “Urban/Cityscape”. The resulting art quilts are varied; cities during the day, cities at night, abstracted images of cities, familiar skylines, large pieces, and small pieces.
