Travel Sketching Class with Patrick Fanning Six Sundays from 10 AM to Noon beginning July 1st

 

This class meets on Sunday mornings from 10 AM to Noon in the OCA classroom. Classes are July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 12th.

We will meet promptly at 10 AM these six Sunday mornings for a short orientation lecture, then proceed outdoors to nearby locations for demonstrations and practice.

Materials needed:

8 1/2 x 11 sketchbook with smooth, heavy white paper such as Robert Batemen cover series

#2 and 4B pencil

Black felt tip pen/brush marker with water soluble ink

Refillable self-contained water brush

pencil sharpener & eraser

 

Tuition: $100, payable to OCA at the first class. Cost includes one copy of Patrick’s textbook “Travel Sketching”. (Class series is $80 if you already have the book!). Drop-ins $15 per class.

 

The class will teach you how to make fresh, lively sketches on location, finishing a complete composition in a matter of minutes. Topics covered include:

• Choosing a sketchbook and drawing materials

• Recording the light direction and observer’s eye level

• Determining relative sizes and angles

• Hatching and shading techniquest for modeling form

• Accurate perspective rendering

• How to use photos without being dependent on them

Patrick Fanning is the author of “Travel Sketching: Creating Lasting Memories With Pen and Pencil”. He has been chronicling his travels in sketchbooks since the early nineties.
